The HDM-4 software was developed as part of the International Study of Highway Development and Management Tools (ISOHDM). Sponsored by the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Swedish National Road Administration, DFID, as well as others, the ISOHDM project has had three major outputs:

  • Technical relationships for modelling pavement deterioration and vehicle operating costs;

  • Procedures for applying the technical relationships for road asset management; and,

  • The HDM-4 software.

The HDM-4 software is therefore only one of the products of the ISOHDM study and, at present (v 1.3), does not embody all the technical findings.

Dr. C.R. Bennett of DCL was Team Leader for the HDM-4 Technical Relationships Study in Malaysia, and is currently on the ISOHDM Project Steering Committee. He is also the primary author of two of the HDM-4 reference books:

  • Modelling Road User and Environmental Effects in HDM-4 (with Ian Greenwood)

  • A Guide to Calibration and Adaptation (with Bill Paterson)

ROMDAS is ideal for HDM-4 studies. With it, data can be collected quickly on pavement condition and processed for analysis with HDM. Have a look at the HDM-4 Information Management System (HIMS) which is a system we have developed specifically for HDM-4 data processing.
